Dear Friends:
Today, we visited the Caprice Diamond Center, Israel's #1 exporter of diamonds. After learning of the technique of cutting and polishing the stones, we were able to see the beautiful product. In addition, the Israel Art Center shares the space with them - artists create amazing works using both precious stones as well as other mediums. Check out the special chair made from Olive Wood:
Afterwards, we visited the Israeli Kenesset, home of the elected leadership of Israel. Outside stands the beautiful Menorah - connecting the government with the Temple Mount of the pass. Of course, a wonderful opportunity for a group photo:
We then went to the Holocaust Memorial Museum - Yad Vashem. It is a powerful exhibit that chronicles the horrific events that decimated 1/3 of the Jewish population from 1933-1945. All of us were moved, especially at the Children's Memorial - remembering the 1.5 million children under 16 who were murdered. This picture is of the Yad Vashem candle - symbolizing the light and smoke of 6 million billowing upward.
We are now preparing for Shabbat - joining with our friends of Temple Emanu-El of Edison, NJ for Kabbalat Shabbat services at the Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion in Jerusalem, my seminary.
Shabbat Shalom to everyone - we'll reconnect after Shabbat tomorrow.
